Team Santa Monica Newsletter - July 2022
Message from the President
Now that school is out, we have started our Summer practice schedule, and we are headed into the Summer meet schedule, I need to catch us up on some important goings on, the results of our recent Board election and I need to ask you to mark your calendars for upcoming important dates.
Strategic Planning: In late Spring, the Board participated in a three-parted Strategic Planning Meeting. We are so excited at how productive these sessions have been! This is something that really should be done every 3-5 years to ensure that the Board has a clear vision on where to lead the Team. Plus, it was fun to spend time with some team parents and the Head Coach! We covered a lot, and have developed a 5-yr plan, with an eye on LA 2028, and we developed an action calendar for next year. Some of what we discussed will be put forth in the Annual Parent Meeting, which has been moved to August 27th , to kick off the season and get a jump on the Home Meet later in September. Some of the other things we talked about were:
1) A revision of the Mission Statement and a development of a short list of our Core Values.
a. Mission: We provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment to foster the skills, qualities and character necessary to pursue excellence in aquatics and in life.
b. Core Values: Commitment, Community, Grit, Passion and Sportsmanship
2) We approved a plan to hire a USA Swimming branding expert to freshen the TSM logo so that water polo and swimming are included, and to provide guidelines on designing caps
and uniforms.
3) Bylaws revision: We’ve agreed on some procedural changes that we believe will benefit the Team, streamline the Board and help new Board members with onboarding. These revisions
will be presented to you before the August 27 th meeting for a general membership vote.
4) Election: As promised, we announced the newly elected Board members on June 11th – Kirsty Hinchcliffe and Erina Murakami. Please join us in congratulating them! Moving
forward, the Board proposes that we hold elections in the spring so that new members can take the summer to on board.
This summer is going to be a great one for TSM. We have seen so many improvements in the last couple of years, most of which have been implemented by Coach Mo and his staff. Additionally, we have seen an expansion of TSM to include a very successful inaugural season of water polo. Please join me in thanking Coach Mo for his tireless work, and although there is always room for improvement, we’ve come a long way and it is an inspiration! I want to congratulate all swimmers and polo players for joining the team, for improving times and scoring goals, for achieving new qualifying times and for heading to championship meets and tournaments. What an exciting time!!
Go TSM!!!
Message from the Head Coach
Congratulations to all the swimmers competing at different championship meets in June and July. You have worked hard and I’m sure you have seen the result of your hard work. Keep up the great work and know that we are always proud of you.
It has been a great, post-Covid, season and we are excited that we have made it through to the Championship month of July.
Congratulations to all the parents for surviving another great season. Thank you for supporting your swimmers and your team over the last year. Let’s continue to move forward.
Congratulations to our Boys Water Polo team for winning their division at the National JOs this past week. Way to go boys! We cannot wait to see what our Water Polo program is capable of for the years to come.
We are so proud of our athletes for their dedication and hard work over the past season and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for our TEAM.
Good luck to all the swimmers racing this weekend at Summer JOs and Sectionals, and next weekend at USA Futures and National Championships.
